It’s time to unite our community behind the campaign for a NSW Human Rights Act.

A Human Rights Act would legally articulate, protect and promote everyone's basic rights and freedoms.
It would require the NSW Government and NSW public authorities to place human rights at the heart of all laws, policies and decisions.
It would also provide a powerful tool that we can all use to seek justice if our human rights are breached.

Victoria, the ACT and Queensland have already passed their own Human Rights Acts. These laws are benefitting people everyday by upholding values like fairness, dignity, equality, compassion and respect.

The people of NSW deserve to have their human rights protected too.

As a constituent of your electorate, I ask you to support the introduction of a Human Rights Act in New South Wales .

I want to live in a state where everyone’s freedom, equality and dignity is legally articulated and protected. The NSW parliament, government and public entities should be required to consider our human rights when proposing new laws and policies or making decisions that impact our lives.

Laws that limit our basic human rights should be required to be properly examined so that the people of NSW have confidence they are proportionate, reasonable and justifiable. The best way to achieve this is through the introduction of a NSW Human Rights Act.

Victoria, the ACT and Queensland have already passed their own Human Rights Acts. These legislated frameworks are working everyday to deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives through fairer laws, policies and practices in governments’ day-to-day dealings with the community. Wouldn’t it be great for NSW to join these jurisdictions by giving proper recognition, consideration and respect to people’s dignity, equality and freedom?

It’s time for NSW to start a conversation about a Human Rights Act

As my representative in the NSW Parliament, I call on you to actively engage with your parliamentary colleagues to advance support for an inquiry into the introduction of a Human Rights Act in NSW.

How we use the data you enter on this form

Do Gooder (the advocacy platform powering this online action) processes personal information from you that you enter on this form so that we can provide the functions and related services to you and The Campaigner (the organisation responsible for this online action) for their legitimate purposes, including possibly exporting it to other systems, and to effectively respond to enquiries and communications related to those services.

Specifically when you enter:

Your location data (residential address or postcode) it is used to locate your elected representative, to pre-populate your email signature and to provide The Campaigner with a visualisation of the location of the support for this campaign.
All other data you may enter, including your email address, name, telephone number, commentary and so on is used by The Campaigner to advocate for the campaign’s goals and where required may be sent to the target of the campaign.
